Waste management is "generation,prevention,characterization,monitoring,treatment,handling,reuse and residual disposition of solid waste". There are various types of solid waste including municipal (residential,institutional,commercial) agriculture, and special(health care,household hazardous wastes,sewage sludge). Recycling is a process to change waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials,reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials,reduce energy usage,reduce air pollution and water pollution.

According to a new study  published in the journal  Endocrinology , oil and natural gas operations are contaminating surface and groundwater with chemicals that wreak havoc on birth and growth hormones. Other  recent reports  show toxic levels of selenium contamination in the groundwater near fracking operations. This is leading to premature births.
